Token Waster is an AI skill that lets you waste your tokens on a few small games, right in your AI chat. Quick minigames and a few longer save-driven ones, sharing one save system, an on-demand dashboard, a story-memory engine and a cross-game profile. The joke is anti-efficiency: spend your tokens on fun instead of saving them. Everything is single-player; to play with friends you swap a challenge code. Built honest: it promises only what works everywhere, and everything better is a bonus.

What this skill does

  • A few small games in your AI chat, sharing one save/progression layer
  • Portable saves as a copy-paste SAVE block (or project file / real file on Claude Code) — everywhere
  • On-demand dashboard (map, stats, inventory, quest log) as Artifact/Canvas, else ASCII; a status line each turn
  • Story-memory engine: decisions set flags that change later runs (no "remembering" required)
  • Cross-game profile: one level, achievements, relics across every game (cross-game progression)
  • MVP games: PromptsAndPaper (AI-game-master roguelite), Token Rush (solo score attack vs. par + AI rival), Detective Case, Hangman + cozy sandbox
  • Single-player competition: named AI rivals, a daily challenge (same seed for everyone) and personal bests per game
  • Play together "via prompt": a challenge code (same seed, their own AI, compare scores) — a live group chat is a ChatGPT-only bonus
  • Token modes (Economy / Normal / Token Waster = immersion density, not "more images")
  • Honest: promises only the plainest surface; Canvas dashboards, images, live group chat are bonuses
  • Load-bearing safety: age-appropriate, hard lines, crisis handling, no data loss, fun not addiction

Description

Token Waster is a handful of small games that run instruction-only inside your own AI chat (ChatGPT, Claude & co.) — no external server, no running costs. Instead of one game it's a few small ones: quick games (Hangman, 20 Questions, Emoji Prompt) and long save-driven ones (the fantasy RPG **PromptsAndPaper**, the mystery **Detective Case**, the solo score attack **Token Rush**, a cozy no-fail sandbox). Every game shares **one engine**: a portable **SAVE block** as your save file (dense `key:value` lines you copy out and paste back — or drop into a project file), an **on-demand dashboard** (map, stats, inventory, quest log — as an Artifact/Canvas surface where your AI supports it, else as ASCII), a **story-memory engine** (decisions set flags that change later runs) and a **cross-game profile** (one level, achievements and relics across every game — a dungeon win can unlock a perk in the next game). **Everything is single-player**: you play against the game, the daily seed, named AI rivals and your own record (personal bests ride in the profile); to play with a friend you go **via prompt** with a challenge code. The core principle is **honesty over flash**: the skill promises only what works on the **plainest** surface — plain-text play, a copy-paste SAVE block, procedural ASCII/SVG art. Everything better is a pleasant surprise: a rendered dashboard (Claude Artifacts / ChatGPT Canvas), the occasional AI image (only where the app supports it — Claude has no image model), and **a live group chat on ChatGPT** (there only — otherwise you play a friend via a **challenge code**: same seed, their own AI, compare scores). It never claims to "remember everything forever" (it reads a save you keep), never pretends to run a server, and doesn't repaint the dashboard every turn (the default is a compact status line — so a session lasts). **PromptsAndPaper** fixes the three known failures of AI adventures: memory collapse (canon lives in flags, not narrative), yes-man game-mastering (stated difficulties, visible rolls, you're allowed to lose) and filter whiplash (a stable, transparent safety layer). And because this genre has a litigated safety record, the **safety layer is load-bearing**: age-appropriate by default, hard absolute lines, no data loss, fun not addiction.

Examples

What it does not do

  • Doesn't claim to "remember" on its own, run a server, or sync a live shared screen
  • Doesn't require images or promise generated art (impossible on some AIs) — procedural art is the baseline
  • Doesn't repaint the whole dashboard every turn (burns the message cap) — a status line by default
  • Doesn't override safety for the story; builds no companion/attachment or addiction mechanics
  • Doesn't count its own tokens; fabricates no ratings/downloads; doesn't pretend a ChatGPT-only feature works everywhere
  • Isn't live multiplayer — single-player by default; playing together is "via prompt" with a challenge code (a live group chat is a ChatGPT-only bonus)
  • Isn't a real-world advisor, therapist or companion — it's a game

    Richtig lustige Idee!

Note

Token Waster is a game, not a real-world advisor, therapist or companion. It invents stories and worlds freely — none of it is fact. Age-appropriate by default (about PG-13); mature themes only on explicit adult opt-in, and hard lines always hold. Persistence is on you (SAVE block / project file) — the skill has no server and "remembers" nothing on its own. Runs instruction-only on your own AI. Single-player by default; to play with friends you go "via prompt" with a challenge code. Images and a live group chat are platform-dependent bonuses, not a promise.

Frequently asked questions

What does Token Waster do?

Token Waster is an AI skill that lets you waste your tokens on a few small games, right in your AI chat. Quick minigames and a few longer save-driven ones, sharing one save system, an on-demand dashboard, a story-memory engine and a cross-game profile. What is Token Waster and how do I play?

Token Waster is an AI skill that lets you waste your tokens on a few small games right in your AI chat (quick minigames + long save-driven campaigns). Start with /token-waster or 'let's play', pick a game — PromptsAndPaper, Token Rush, Detective Case, Hangman or a cozy sandbox — and go. Every game shares one save system, one dashboard and one cross-game profile.

Does my save survive when I close the chat?

Yes, but honestly: Token Waster has no memory server. For long games the skill hands you a compact SAVE block you keep and paste back next time — or drop into a project file (ChatGPT/Claude) or, with Claude Code, a real file. Short games like Hangman need no save at all.

Do I need images or a special interface?

No. Token Waster is fully playable everywhere as plain text. It repaints a graphical dashboard (map, stats, inventory) on request if your AI supports Artifacts/Canvas; otherwise you get the same info as ASCII. Images are a bonus (only where the AI can generate them) — no game requires them.

Is Token Waster single-player, or can I play with friends?

Single-player by default — you play against the game, the daily seed, a named AI rival and your own record. To play with a friend you go 'via prompt': the skill hands you a challenge code (a text string with a seed + score) to pass on; each of you plays the same run on your own AI and compares. It works anywhere because it's just text. A live group chat (ChatGPT only) can moderate a round on top — an honest bonus, not a promise.

Is Token Waster suitable for kids?

By default Token Waster keeps an age-appropriate tone (about PG-13); mature themes only on explicit adult opt-in, and hard lines always hold. It's a game, not a companion or real advice — no attachment/addiction mechanics, with a fair 'good stopping point' at session ends.

Which AI tools does Token Waster work with?

Any AI (Claude, ChatGPT, Gemini …) via paste-in / project / skill · Best with a rendering surface (Claude Artifacts / ChatGPT Canvas) for the dashboard · Single-player everywhere; play a friend via a challenge code (a live group chat is a ChatGPT-only bonus) · Real save files with Claude Code; fully playable everywhere as plain text
